Hopewell Lithic Resources and Mortuary Rituals: An Analysis of the Montezuma Mound #1 Bioface Cache
In the Illinois River Valley, several large deposits of bifacially flaked chert blanks have been recovered from Hopewell Mounds. However, few of these caches have been examined in detail in terms of their lithic sources and manufacturing stages. Brad Koldehoff, regional coordinator for the Illinois Transportation Archaeological Research Program at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, will discuss the numerous bifaces that blanketed the central tomb in Montezuma Mound #1.
