This C-Phone 1A TTY machine was used by Ronnie James around 1981. It is a single unit with keyboard and monitor. A TTY is a piece of assistive technology that allows conversations through typed words. Users typed in what they wished to say, which was then transmitted to another TTY machine. In that way, people with hearing impairment could communicate long-distance.
